Frequently asked questions
Decide well-informed.
Here you will find clear answers to the most important questions about modern chiropractic.
A chiropractor diagnoses and treats functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system, with a focus on the spine, joints, and nervous system. Using targeted, mostly manual techniques, natural mobility is restored and the interplay between structure and nervous system is supported.
Usually not. Most people find the treatment pleasant and relieving. With acute complaints it may feel briefly tender — the techniques are always tailored individually to your situation and your comfort.
The initial examination takes about 35–45 minutes depending on its scope, as taking your medical history and examining you require time. Follow-up appointments are usually shorter and typically take 15–20 minutes.
That depends on your complaints, how long you have had them, and your goals. After the initial examination we discuss an individual plan and a realistic assessment together — transparently and without unnecessary appointments.
For many disc problems, chiropractic can relieve the symptoms and improve function. After a careful examination we decide whether chiropractic treatment is appropriate or whether further investigation is needed.
Sciatic complaints often arise from irritation or compression of nerves in the lower back. Chiropractic treatment can address the underlying functional disorder and thereby reduce the radiating pain.

Yes. Children are examined and treated with especially gentle, age-appropriate techniques. The pressure is considerably lighter than for adults and always tailored to the child.
When performed properly, chiropractic is considered safe. Every treatment is preceded by a thorough examination to rule out possible contraindications and to choose the appropriate, gentle technique.

The first appointment begins with a detailed conversation (medical history), followed by a neurological and orthopaedic examination. We then explain the connections to you in an understandable way and propose an individual plan.
If you already have imaging (MRI, X-ray) or findings, feel free to bring them along. They are helpful but not a prerequisite for the first appointment.
Ideally comfortable clothing in which you can move freely — such as shorts or leggings — so the affected areas can be examined as thoroughly as possible.
No. The audible sound is caused by a pressure equalisation within the joint and is not a sign of the treatment's success. Techniques are also used in which nothing cracks.
American chiropractic is based on a multi-year university degree (Doctor of Chiropractic) and evidence-based treatment methods with a focus on the spine and nervous system.
Physiotherapy focuses primarily on movement therapy and strengthening the muscles. Chiropractic focuses on diagnosing and correcting functional disorders of the spine and nervous system. The two approaches often complement each other very well.
Osteopathy takes a holistic approach with a focus on connective tissue, organ systems, and body structures. Chiropractic is more specifically oriented towards the nervous system and spine; training and techniques differ considerably.
